Sandra Bruce - President and CEO
Sandra Bruce was named President and CEO of Presence Health when the health system was formed on November 1, 2011. She has more 35 years of health care executive experience, most recently as the President and CEO of Resurrection Health Care for three years and previously as CEO of Trinity Health’s Saint Alphonsus Health System in Boise, Idaho where she spent 11 years. She is also the former President and CEO of Mercy General Health Partners in Muskegon, Michigan and began her career at Berrien General Hospital, where she later became the CEO.
An influential healthcare leader and a strong advocate for improving access to care for all, Sandra was named one of the nation’s 2011 Top 25 Women in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine. She has previously served as past chair of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic Health Association of the United States and continues to be an active committee member. She has served on committees within the American Hospital Association and several state hospital associations. Currently, she serves on several councils of the Illinois Hospital Association and in 2009, she was appointed to the Commission on a High Performance Health System (The Commonwealth Fund) to help shape health reform.
A Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives, Sandra holds a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Notre Dame and a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University.
Jean Blake – Vice President of Clinical Operations and Nursing
As Vice President of Clinical Operations and Nursing, Jean Blake has oversight and leadership for the Presence Health eICU, Care Management, Resource Center, Clinical Education, Pharmacy and Chief Nursing Officer Council. She also co-leads the Chief Nursing Officer/Chief Medical Officer Council. Jean has over 20 years of health care leadership experience with a proven track record of outstanding results in clinical operations and care management. Prior to joining Presence Health, she served as Executive Director of Clinical Operations Integration at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Previous to that, she served as the medical center’s Executive Director of Patient Care Services and as Director of Patient Access. Jean earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from St. Xavier University, Chicago and her Masters in Jurisprudence from Loyola School of Law, Chicago, with an emphasis in health law, health care finance and employment law.
David DiLoreto, M.D. – Clinical Operations and Innovation Officer
As Chief Clinical Operations and Innovation Officer for Presence Health, David DiLoreto, M.D. oversees Presence Medical Group, Graduate Medical Education, Quality and Risk Management, with dotted line oversight of managed care, medical information, network development and the ministry Vice Presidents of Medical Affairs/Chief Medical Officers. Dr. DiLoretojoined Legacy Resurrection Health Care in 2009 as its first Chief Medical Officer. In this role, he provided direction to system-wide improvements in patient safety, risk management, quality and accreditation services. Dr. DiLoreto is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained oculoplastic surgeon. Prior to joining legacy Resurrection Health Care, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Baptist Health Care in Pensacola, Florida. He received his doctor of medicine from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL and his master’s degree in business administration from Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
Howard Drenth – Chief Executive Officer, Presence Medical Group
As Chief Executive Officer for Presence Medical Group, Howard Drenth provides strategic direction and leadership to help shape the culture and vision for Presence Health’s employed medical group. Howard has more than 15 years of experience as a health system executive. He joined Presence Health in January 2013 after spending six years at Kettering Health Network in Dayton, Ohio, where he most recently served as Vice President of Physician Services for Kettering’s hospital-owned, multispecialty physician network. Prior to Kettering, Howard was a Regional Director at BayCare Health System in Florida where he was responsible for operations of a five practice, urgent care, primary care and occupational health organization. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Albion College in Albion, Michigan and his Master’s degree in Management from Nazareth College in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is also a Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE), a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a member of the American College of Medical Practice Executives and a member of the Medical Group Management Association.
Tony Filer – Chief Finance Officer
As Chief Finance Officer for Presence Health, Tony Filer’s areas of responsibility include managed care, revenue cycle, supply chain, accounting, facilities planning and treasury. Tony joined legacy Provena Health in 2002 as System Vice President of Finance and Chief Finance Officer (CFO) before being promoted to Senior Vice President in 2005 and Chief Operations Officer in 2011. He most recently served Presence Health as its Chief Ministry Operations Officer. Tony had previously served as Vice President of Operational Finance for Ascension Health, a $10 billion, Catholic health system based in St. Louis, MO. He was the Regional CFO for the Daughters of Charity National Health System in Baltimore, MD; Vice President of Finance for Franciscan Health System of Aston, PA., a 13-hospital system; Vice President of Finance and CFO of St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, PA; and a senior audit manager for Ernst & Young’s Philadelphia practice office. Tony earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA, and is a certified public accountant.
Jeannie Frey – Chief Legal Affairs Officer
As Chief Legal Affairs Officer for Presence Health, Jeannie Frey oversees legal, compliance, insurance and claims. She joined legacy Resurrection Health Care in 2004 as Senior Vice President of Legal Affairs and General Counsel and had also served as the organization’s Corporate Secretary. Previously, she was a partner with law firm McDermott, Will & Emery in Chicago, Illinois. Earlier in her career, she was in private practice in Denver, CO and Washington, D.C., and served as a staff attorney with the Securities and Exchange Commission. She is the immediate past Chair of the Nonprofit Corporations Committee of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association, serves on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys and is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association. Jeanne has authored book chapters and other publications on various health law and nonprofit corporation issues. A graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder, she received her law degree from Yale University Law School.
Dougal Hewitt – Chief Mission and External Affairs Officer
As the Chief Mission and External Affairs Officer for Presence Health, Dougal Hewitt oversees mission, ministry formation, ethics and external affairs. Dougal joined Presence Health in 2013 having come to the organization from Bon Secours Richmond Health System where he most recently served as Senior Vice President of Mission. He has more than 22 years of experience in health administration, community outreach and values-based leadership development and formation. Dougal is currently a Ph.D. candidate in community health and architecture at University of Miami, and has a Master of Arts in public administration from University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Arts in modern history and international relations from University of Saint Andrews in Scotland. He also has a certification in ethics from Georgetown University and a certification in integral leadership from University of Notre Dame.
Kathleen Rhine – Chief Administrative Officer
As Chief Administrative Officer for Presence Health, Kathleen Rhine is responsible for human resources, marketing and external communications, information services, performance improvement, organizational learning and transformation, internal communications and breakthrough improvement. Prior to this position, as Chief Transformation Officer, she was responsible for merger integration, bringing together the Provena Health and Resurrection Health Care systems. She has also served as legacy Resurrection Health Care’s Senior Vice President, Patient and Family Centered Care since 2010. Kathleen previously served as Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Administrative Services within the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System in Ann Arbor, MI. She earned a Bachelor of Science in health planning and administration from Penn State University in University Park, PA and a master’s in business administration from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI.
Janelle Reilly – Chief Strategy Officer/Interim Operations Office
As Chief Strategy Officer/Interim Operations Officer for Presence Health, Janelle oversees hospital and Presence Life Connections operations, strategic and business planning, and service line development and implementation, working to coordinate care for patients and residents across our continuum. Janelle joined Presence Health in 2012 after serving most recently as Chief Strategy and Accountable Health Network Officer for the multi-hospital Saint Alphonsus Health System in Boise, Idaho. Prior to her system role, she served six years as Chief Operating Officer and nearly a year as the interim CEO for Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. Janelle received her Master of Arts degree in health administration from the University of Missouri and a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and mathematics from William Jewell College in Missouri. She is a member of the American College of Health Care Executives and was named a 2004 recipient of the YWCA’s Salute to Women Award.
Paul Skiem – Chief Human Resources Officer
As Chief Human Resources Officer for Presence Health, Paul Skiem oversees benefits and wellness, compensation, recruitment, employee health, and organizational development. He joined Legacy Resurrection Health Care in 1996 and served in the director and vice president positions for the organization’s Human Resources department. Previously, Paul worked at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where he served in various human resources management roles, including Director of Human Resources, Director of Compensation and Benefits, and Manager of Employment Services. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Nazarethville, a home for aging seniors, and on the Advisory Board of the North Park University School of Business and Non-Profit Management. A graduate of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Paul earned a master's in business administration degree (High Honors) from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management in Lake Forest.
